Africa with 211 dead in 24 hours and 6768 new cases of covid-19

Africa recorded 211 deaths due to covid-19 in the last 24 hours, reaching a total of 31,494 in 1,306,157 cases of infection, according to the most recent pandemic figures on the continent.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the African Union (Africa CDC), in the last 24 hours, there were 6768 new cases in the 55 member states of the organization and 6827 more recovered, for a total of 1,045,083 .

The largest number of cases and deaths continues to be registered in Southern Africa, with 689,515 infections and 16,056 deaths. South Africa alone, the continent's most affected country, accounts for 639,362 cases and has exceeded 15,000 fatalities (15,004).

Northern Africa, the second most affected area by the pandemic, now has 251,233 people infected and 9042 dead and in West Africa the number of infections has risen to 165,049 and that of fatalities to 2472.

In the East African region, the number of cases of covid-19 is 144,906 and 2874 deaths, and in Central Africa there are 55,545 cases and 1050 deaths.

Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, registers 5541 deaths and passed 100 thousand cases (100,041), followed by Algeria, with 1556 deaths and 46,364 cases.

Morocco counts 73,780 infected and 1394 fatalities.

In the six most affected countries are also Nigeria, with 55,160 infected and 1061 dead, and Ethiopia, with 59,648 infected and 933 dead.

Among African countries that have Portuguese as their official language, Angola leads in number of deaths and Equatorial Guinea in number of cases.

Angola records 120 deaths and 2981 cases, followed by Equatorial Guinea (83 deaths and 4985 cases), Cape Verde (42 deaths and 4358 cases), Guinea-Bissau (39 deaths and 2275 cases), Mozambique (27 deaths and 4557 cases) ) and São Tomé and Príncipe (15 dead and 896 cases).
