‘Palancas Negras’ draw with Kenya and jeopardize passage to the CHAN ‘quarters’

Angola drew with Kenya this Thursday in the second round of the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2025) group stage. With a loss in the first leg, this draw, and only two games remaining, the 'Palancas Negras' are dependent on their opponents' results to remain in the competition.

Just a few minutes into the match, Angola opened the scoring. Jó Paciência scored in the seventh minute, making it 1-0.

However, Angola's lead was short-lived, as Kenyan Austine Odhiambo scored the equalizer in the 12th minute.

The match went into halftime tied 1-1.

In the second half, the score remained unchanged until the final minutes of stoppage time. In the 90+6 minute, Kaporal scored a goal, which was later disallowed for offside.

Thus, the match ended with Angola and Kenya tied 1-1.

In the first leg, Angola lost 2-0 to Morocco.

With one loss and one draw, the national team has only one point, occupying fourth place in Group A, which also includes Kenya (four points), Morocco (three points), the Democratic Republic of the Congo (three points), and Zambia (zero points).

The 'Palancas Negras' return to action next Sunday to face Zambia. On August 14, Angola has a match scheduled against the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

CHAN 2025 is taking place in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
