This monument is located in Benguela.
It pays homage to the founder of the city (Manuel Cerveira Pereira), showing his bust, which is leaning against a vertical volume in the shape of a triangle.
The monument, whose construction dates back to before 1960, has the same characteristics as the commemorative and historicist monuments of the Portuguese Estado Novo. These were made of stone and had formal components of vertical proportions.
It should be noted that Manuel Cerveira Pereira, who was twice captain-general in the captaincy-general of the Kingdom of Angola, was the founder of the Fort of São Filipe de Benguela, near which a small community was established that would become the capital of the new Portuguese domain in the south of Angolan territory, namely the Kingdom of Benguela.
