In a press release, ANPG, the sector's concessionaire and regulator, states that, in collaboration with Sonangol Exploração e Produção, it decided to move forward with the acquisition of geological data, in a project that will begin in September this year, to improve geophysical knowledge and geology of the aforementioned blocks.
To this end, it contracted “a specialized service for the acquisition of gravimetric data, which includes the study and analysis of residues, and magnetometric data, which refers to the degree of magnetization, in the Terrestrial Blocks of the Kwanza Basin, which covers the provinces of Luanda, Malanje and Cuanza-Norte, namely Blocks KON-11, KON-12 and KON-15".
The project will be carried out by the Striped-Horse and Metatek consortium, and “uses Airborne and FTG technology to collect fundamental data for the preparation of high-resolution geophysical maps”, says the note, highlighting that the first part of the contract comprises the collection and data processing, lasting 45 days.
This work will be carried out with a specialized aircraft, in an operation with less impact on the environment, they guarantee, and the final results of the study will be delivered by the consortium in the first quarter of 2025.
“The data acquired will make it possible to identify variations in the properties of the rocks, indicating the presence of geological structures that may contain oil and other hydrocarbons, in light of the Exploration Strategy carried out by ANPG”, highlights in the note.
This initiative is considered by the agency “a significant advance in the commitment to mapping and understanding regional geology, in addition to evaluating the prospective potential of the blocks operated (KON 11 and KON 12) and to be operated (KON 15) by Sonangol Exploração & Produção in Kwanza Onshore Basin”.
