According to the Deputy Director of Public Security and Operations of the National Police, Chief Superintendent Lázaro da Conceição, 35,388 magazines and 214,613 rounds of ammunition were also collected between February of this year and the present date, thus reaching 82 percent of the target that the authorities had set out to achieve.
Lázaro da Conceição said that the objective of the Operation to Collect War Weapons Held by Private Security and Self-Protection Systems Companies is to remove prohibited weapons from this sector and replace them with weapons authorized by law.
The collection of these types of weapons reached more than 90 percent of the target in almost all provinces, with the exception of Luanda and Cunene.
The National Police officer stressed that war weapons must be replaced by defense weapons, as provided for in the Law on Private Security Companies, with 12 private companies licensed to import personal defense weapons.
To date, 14,320 defense weapons have been imported, of which 12,771 units have already been sold, including 9,955 rifles and 99 pistols.
According to the official, the period for the compulsory delivery of weapons of war has ended, so that companies that continue to operate with this type of weaponry will be held criminally liable, under the terms of the Penal Code and the General Regime of Administrative Offenses.
Lázaro da Conceição called on the population to report companies that still use weapons of war.
