Angola loses at the start of the second phase of the Basketball World Cup

Cape Verde and Angola lost this Thursday to Finland and China, respectively, in matches for the 17th to 32nd place at the Basketball World Cup, taking place in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia.

In Okinawa, Japan, the Cape Verde team, which had achieved its first ever World Cup victory in the first phase, was unable to prevent the victory of Finland (100-77), which achieved its first triumph in this edition.

Lauri Markkanen, who was in the last All-Star Game of the North American League (NBA), was the great figure of the match, scoring 34 points and nine rebounds.

On the Cape Verdean side, Benfica's Ivan Almeida, with 17 points, was the top scorer, with Edy Tavares achieving a 'double-double' (14 points and 12 rebounds).

Angola also ended up being defeated, losing to China, 83-76, with Hu Jinqiu (20 points) and Li Kaier (17 points and seven rebounds) leading the Asians to victory.

In Manila, Childe Dundão (17 points) and Bruno Fernandes (16 points and six rebounds), who plays for the NBA's Atlanta Hawks, were Angola's best.

On Saturday, Angola faces South Sudan and Cape Verde plays Japan.
