Angola at UN to support youth agenda

According to the permanent representative of Angola to the United Nations, the Government is committed to showing that the country supports the strengthening of mechanisms for implementing the UN Agenda for Youth, Peace and Security, to increase the participation of young people in the construction processes of the peace and community development.

The support was expressed this Monday by Ambassador Francisco José da Cruz, in an open session of the Security Council, which took place under the theme “Strengthening the Implementation of the Youth, Peace and Security Agenda for a Peaceful and Stable Africa”.

For the Angolan representative, the Youth, Peace and Security Agenda must remain at the forefront of debates and decisions, taking into account the strategic role and percentage of the world's young population, particularly in Africa, and the fact that they are the most affected by conflicts .

The Angolan ambassador to the United Nations also said that it was essential to strengthen collaboration and strategic coordination between Member States, local, national, regional, continental and international institutions, in order to take advantage of their respective strengths and resources to advance the Youth and the Peace and Security Agenda in the world.

In his point of view, States should place emphasis on job creation and entrepreneurship, to reduce the risks of hopelessness among young people and prevent their radicalisation. On the other hand, it understands that it is necessary to support young peace ambassadors in peacebuilding initiatives, especially in conflict and post-conflict situations.

On behalf of Angola, Francisco José da Cruz commended and encouraged the UN Security Council to regularly call meetings to discuss and update programs and their implementation processes, as well as to facilitate the sharing of experiences, lessons learned and best practices to support and promote the Youth, Peace and Security Agenda worldwide.

The UN Security Council was also encouraged to establish a monitoring mechanism to assess progress on the Youth, Peace and Security Agenda, a document that recognizes young people as a positive force in preventing and resolving conflicts and building peace. sustainable.
