CPLP: increase in quotas for member countries approved to be discussed by ministers

The Member States of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) approved, in the Permanent Concertation Committee (CCP), the proposals for increasing quotas and strengthening the role of the secretariat, announced the executive secretary.

:

Now, the proposals, including the proposal for the final declaration of the summit on Sunday, will be discussed this Friday by the representatives of the Portuguese-speaking diplomacy, meeting in São Tomé, explained Zacarias da Costa.

The CCP meeting "was positive", in that it was possible to "approve all draft resolutions and documents that will obviously also go to the Council of Ministers and then to the Conference of Heads of State and Government".

"This is the usual procedure: the documents will have to be appreciated in the technical group, approved by the Permanent Concertation Committee, then they will go up for approval in the Council of Ministers before, let's say, the final green light by the Heads of State and Government", he explained. Zacarias da Costa.

All proposals from the technical groups were approved, including the "proposal to increase quotas from 2026, up to 27 percent", according to each country.

These increases will be differentiated according to the countries, explained Zacarias da Costa.

Among the various requests, only Paraguay will be discussed at the summit as an observer country in the CPLP.

At the meeting, the budget for 2024 was not subject to a vote, but "will be approved shortly, at a first opportunity for the CCP meeting", added the Timorese executive secretary, who should be reappointed in office for a term of two more years.

The CPLP, which comprises Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe and Timor-Leste, holds the 14th Conference of Heads of State and Government, in São Tomé and Príncipe, next Sunday, under the motto "Youth and Sustainability".
