In a statement, the South African presidency said that Ramaphosa "sent his warmest and most sincere congratulations to President João Lourenço and the people of the Republic of Angola for his re-election".
"I look forward to working with President João Lourenço to strengthen the strong and cordial bilateral relations between our two countries, as well as in matters of mutual interest on the African continent and in our region, the Southern African Development Community (SADC)" , added the South African head of state.
Ramaphosa also considered that the August 24 general elections took place "in a calm environment, in which the people of Angola exercised their democratic right to elect a government of their choice".
The South African president was in Luanda on Sunday to participate in the funeral ceremonies of former Angolan president José Eduardo dos Santos.
