P-Njango candidate highlights “sovereign occasion” to choose rulers and contradicts “Votou, Sentou”

The candidate of the National Party for Justice in Angola (P-Njango) considered this Wednesday the elections as a “sovereign occasion” for choosing rulers and urged voters to wait for the results at home, contrary to the “Votou, Sentou” movement.

According to Dinho Chingunji, who voted at assembly 916, Nova Vida district, Kilamba Kiaxi municipality, in Luanda, this Wednesday is the day when citizens have the "right and sovereign opportunity" to choose their rulers.

"And as a citizen I came here to exercise my right of citizenship and I hope that this process will be exemplary for all Angolans and for the world", said Chingunji, speaking to journalists.

"That is why we urge all citizens to return to their homes and wait for the results", he stressed, contradicting the "Votou, Sentou" movement promoted by some parties and members of civil society, which ask voters to remain in the vicinity of the assemblies.

The fifth general elections perpetuate the dispute between the country's two main parties, the MPLA and UNITA, which are trying to win a majority of the 220 seats in the National Assembly.

In total, eight political formations, seven parties and a coalition of parties compete, trying to win the scattered vote of the 14.4 million voters.
