According to sources contacted by Lusa, there were some isolated cases of delays in opening polling stations.

Polling stations close at 4 pm, but those in line can vote until 5 pm, according to the National Electoral Commission (CNE).

Of the total of 14,399 million voters, who will be able to vote between 7 am and 5 pm, 22,560 are from the diaspora, spread across 25 cities in 12 countries in Africa, Europe and America.

The opposition has criticized the transparency of the electoral process, accusing the government party, the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), of using it and calling into question transparency.

The police mobilized from Monday all the staff, due to the elections, until Thursday, and 75 percent of the media between "26 August and 6 September".

The "prevention measures" and security, according to a directive from the Ministry of the Interior, will be in force until 1 September, when the "swearing-in of elected members" is scheduled.

According to the police, 35,930 people are mobilized to ensure the security of polling stations.

In addition to the MPLA, the National Union for the Independence of Angola (UNITA) is running, with which it should share the overwhelming majority of the 220 seats in the National Assembly and, according to the Constitution, the first two on the national list of the most voted party will automatically be President and Vice President of the country.

The MPLA nominates João Lourenço (candidate for re-election) and Esperança Costa, for President and Vice-President of the country. UNITA already nominates its leader Adalberto Costa Júnior and, as number two, Abel Chivukuvuku, founder and former leader of the Broad Convergence for the Salvation of Angola - Electoral Coalition (CASA-CE), the third party with the most parliamentary seats.

In addition to the MPLA and UNITA, six other political groups are competing: CASA-CE, National Front for the Liberation of Angola (FNLA), Social Renewal Party (PRS), National Patriotic Alliance (APN), Humanist Party of Angola (PHA) and Nationalist Party for Justice in Angola (P-Njango).

In Portugal, around 7600 Angolans are registered to vote and the voting time is similar to Angola.
