"Since, as has already been said, the slogan that our candidacy and various forces of civil society opted for - 'Votou, Sentou' - there is no reason to give up on it, on the contrary, we believe that we should increasingly encourage", pointed out the director general of the UNITA electoral campaign, Lukamba Paulo "Gato".
The general, also in reserve, also ruled out acts of violence, as a result of the "Votou, Sentou" movement, referring that citizens "only go to polling stations with their ballpoint pen and without any blunt material".
The official of the Galo Negro party, who was taking stock of the first weeks of the electoral campaign, with a view to the elections on August 24, recalled that more than 2.5 million deaths persist in the base of voting citizens, after more than 20 years, guaranteeing to have "internal mechanisms" in case they are not purged.
"About the names of the deceased on the electoral rolls, statistics have not been able to purge deceased persons from the lists for over 20 years. It is currently estimated that there are more than 2.5 million deaths that still persist or subsist in the statistics," said Lukamba Paulo.
The most powerful opposition politician said the death toll in the voter database "is considerable and cannot be overlooked."
"So our party is concerned about this problem of the deceased on the lists, but measures have been taken if the Government persists in its position of not timely expunging the deceased citizens", he assured.
According to Lukamba Paulo, the law allows contestants to create mechanisms to "verify in detail who the vote is".
UNITA, he continued, "is in a position to activate the mechanism it has to limit as much as possible any interference from these numbers", without, however, specifying the type of "mechanism" it called "internal".
The problem of citizens killed in the voter database, for the vote on the 24th of this month, has been recurrent within the political forces in the opposition and civil society, a situation that has been minimized by the MPLA and the National Electoral Commission (CNE).
For Lukamba Paulo, the inclusion of dead citizens in the voters' list, the relocation of voters, the non-disclosure of voters' lists and the lack of electoral rolls are among the "various irregularities" of the electoral process.
Eight political forces, namely seven parties and a coalition of parties, are running for the fifth general election scheduled for next week.
At least 14 million voters, residing in Angola and abroad, are registered to exercise their right to vote.
