Asked whether cooperation with China would remain the same if Angolans chose a change of government in the next general elections on August 24, Gong Tao stressed that he wants bilateral relations to remain solid.

"(Angola) has always been a brother country, we had good relations in the past and after the elections bilateral relations continue", said the diplomat, stressing that China "out of respect for all, does not interfere in internal affairs".

"These are Angolan elections, we have always respected the development path chosen by the different peoples and after the elections we will continue to develop our relations", he declared, wishing that "the campaign goes well, in terms of democracy, free choice, and any result let it come out that it is fair".

Gong Tao was speaking at a press conference in which he discussed cooperation relations with Angola, as well as the issue of Taiwan, repudiated the realization of Nancy Pelosi's visit, which he considered a severe violation of the "one China" principle and the principle of territorial integrity of China, which gave the "wrong signal to secessionist forces of Taiwan independence".

Taiwan, stressed "is an inalienable part of China", so China cannot "allow this type of provocation" and will remain "firm" to take "necessary measures" to guarantee its sovereignty and stability".
