International Pairs: World's biggest amateur golf tournament to take place in Angola

The date is set: 11th and 12th of September. The location also: Campo dos Mangais, Barra do Kwanza. The tournament, this is – just – the biggest in the world in its category. This is how the first edition of the International Pairs in Golf is presented.

Presented this Wednesday in Luanda, the tournament will bring together 40 teams, totaling 80 golfers, said António Louro, CEO of Golf Mangais Resort and director of the event.

For the official, the tournament, in addition to bringing more competition to Angolans, should also help in the creation of objectives for the participants, such as representing the country abroad. The organization seeks to create a competition in an environment where all amateur players have an opportunity to compete worldwide, "based on fair and verified criteria and handicaps".

In addition to being a competition with a competitive nature, the International Pairs also intends to promote the sport in the country, showing itself as a reason for tourist attraction and supporting the emergence of new practitioners. "It is a very important event for Angola, as it involves most countries in the southern region. We intend to do something that will make everyone proud on the map of the sporting and tourist continent," stated António Louro, quoted by Angop.

The director also added that Angola has unique conditions for playing golf, so the sport could become an important economic asset for the tourism sector.

This, which will be the largest amateur golf tournament in the world, will take place in the country until 2024, since Fazenda Mangais has won the license for its realization, already giving the guarantee to maintain the regularity of the competition.

In its debut, scheduled for the second weekend of September, the tournament will select the Angolan amateur duo that will represent the country in the world championship of the sport, taking place in Algarve, Portugal, between the 26th and 30th of September . Representatives from 50 countries are expected to compete on Portuguese soil.
