Switzerland beats Angola in the II Matosinhos International Basketball Tournament

The swiss national basketball team beat this Wednesday its counterpart of Angola by 90-75, in the first match of the II International Tournament of Matosinhos, which also counts with the presence of Portugal.

The swiss team, which led 48-39 at halftime, was led by Toni Rocak, who scored 19 points, six rebounds and three assists, followed by Jonathan Kazadi, who finished the match with nine points, five rebounds and five assists.

In the angolan team, which still led by 11 points (29-18) at the end of the initial period, highlight for the 14 points and five assists from Gerson Gonçalves and 15 points and five rebounds from Aboubacar Gakou.

Portugal is back in action on Thursday, facing Switzerland at 6:30pm, in the other match of the tournament and in what will be the last preparation for the next official games.

The portuguese national team is preparing to participate in group C of the second round of pre-qualification for the 2023 World Basketball Championship, where it will face Sweden and Luxembourg, in Matosinhos, from August 12 to 18.

Mário Gomes' 'five' will face the Scandinavians on August 12 and 16 and the Luxembourgers on August 13 and 17.

To achieve a place in the European qualifying round, joining the 24 teams already qualified, Portugal needs to finish in one of the first two places in the group.

The 2023 Basketball World Cup will take place in Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines, from September 1 to 17.
