According to a press release from the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), to which Lusa had access on Tuesday, this action follows the launch on July 6 in Luanda of this debate, which brought together representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Agriculture and Livestock and UN agencies.

The UN member-states were encouraged to organize national dialogues on food systems, prior to the Summit that will take place in parallel to the 76th General Assembly of the United Nations, to be held between September 14 and 30 this year in New York.

FAO and the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries are now leading the provincial discussions of the National Dialogues, which are taking place in a face-to-face and virtual format, so that the participation of the country's 18 provinces is possible.

According to the document, the National Dialogues in Angola are part of the public consultations on the new ENSAN II 2022-2030, which has the overall objective of promoting a sustainable food system in Angola, "capable of eradicating hunger and adequately feeding all Angolans, preserving the country's natural resources, as well as promoting its food resilience."

"ENSAN II is based on the vision of the progressive realization of the Human Right to Food, with the promotion of a sustainable and resilient food system and the acceleration of investments to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, in particular SDG number 2 which aims to eradicate hunger worldwide by 2030," the statement said.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres called on Presidents and heads of government of the world to participate in the dialogue to establish national pathways for the transformation of food systems and accelerate collective action to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda.
