President says the country cannot be built in ten years

The President said this Friday that a country cannot be built in ten years, the constitutionally allowed time in office, and that he has been keeping his electoral promises.

:

João Lourenço, who was speaking to the press at the end of the inauguration ceremony of the Saurimo Industrial Development Pole, in Lunda Sul province, said that this is "a process" and if he considers that his duty has been fulfilled "there is nothing more to do".

"We would stop here and the intention is not to stop here. The duty has been accomplished, the intention is to replicate this center to other points in the country, not to stay just in the city of Saurimo", he emphasized.

The head of state, who this week completed four years of election, reinforced that "it doesn't matter what the president can do", because "a country cannot be built in ten years".

"That's the most the Constitution allows him, a country is not built in ten years, each one must do his part and pass the baton to whoever comes to replace him. It means to say that there are things that we do and we will inaugurate, what is happening now, for example, there are things that we will start and it will be another Angolan citizen to inaugurate them and it doesn't matter who the person is, the important thing is that the executive can work for the development of our country", he stressed.

João Lourenço, who has been travelling to the diamond provinces of Lunda Sul and Lunda Norte since Thursday, stressed that the electrification process in the east of the country is under way, highlighting the Luachimo hydroelectric exploitation, which is close to being concluded.

According to the head of state, this undertaking, which he visited Thursday, should be concluded next year, despite some delays, mainly financial ones.

"But we will find the solution for the removal of this constraint, so that this important undertaking for the province of Lunda Norte is effectively accomplished", he stressed.

"On the other hand, we are also working to interconnect the various electrical systems, the northern system to the eastern system, to bring energy from the production sources, from Laúca, from Caculo-Cabaça, when it is ready, with energy transportation lines, to the points that are essentially consumption points, because they don't have the capacity to produce energy in sufficient quantity", he added.

Regarding education, João Lourenço assured that the Government is also paying attention to this issue, in order to take "quality higher education to all corners of the country.

"It is within our plans, and as we get the necessary financial resources to fulfill this desire, we will do it. So we want a developed country, I wouldn't say equally, but without discrimination. Yesterday I was saying to the bishop of Lunda Norte that the executive doesn't have children and stepchildren, it only has children. We have to work, we have to treat everybody equally, nobody should feel discriminated against, because in fact there is no intention to discriminate against any people, to discriminate against any region of our country", he affirmed.

The two provinces have been claiming for several years greater autonomy and benefits from diamond production for the local inhabitants, which has sometimes led to popular protests.
