"The Presidential Decree No. 188/21, of 3 August, João Lourenço approved the end of the obligation of six procedures previously unavoidable in the formalities to obtain services in the central and local public administration," reads a note posted on the government's Facebook page.
According to the statement it is no longer necessary to present, for any service in public administration, the Certificate of Criminal Record, the Military Census Slip and the Declaration of Regularized Military Status.
Also no longer required are "Birth Certificates for cases where the citizen already has an Identity Card, the Military Authorization to leave the country and, finally, the Police Declaration for the purpose of requesting a 2nd copy of a lost document.
The note notes that the suspension of the presentation of these documents was proposed in the scope of the Simplifica 1.0 Project, a "gradual implementation initiative presented publicly last May as the first phase of a series of other measures aimed at reducing bureaucracy, modernizing public administration and, consequently, making citizens' lives easier.
