Angolan police officer arrested for allegedly stealing 593 lamps for public network maintenance

An Angolan policeman was arrested in the municipality of Lobito, Benguela province, accused of having stolen 593 different lamps at the Quileva Thermal Power Plant, local police authorities said.

:

According to the spokesman of the Criminal Investigation Service of Benguela, subinspector Vitorino Kotingo, the National Police officer, 53 years old, was on duty at the thermal power plant, and for this purpose he had the help of his son, 28 years old.

Vitorino Kotingo, cited by Angop, informed that the lamps were recovered, being 415 incandescent, 177 ecological and one fluorescent, which were destined to the informal market for commercialization.

The lamps were stolen from inside a container, where they were kept for the periodic maintenance of the public lighting poles, as well as from some State institutions.

Recently, the Minister of the Interior, Eugénio Laborinho, expressed concern with the growing phenomenon of vandalization of public property, manifested through thefts by nationals.

Eugénio Laborinho mentioned that this is a crime that has been gaining alarming contours, if we look at the damage that it has caused to the State, and appealed to society to denounce these situations.

The acts of vandalization of public property in Angola have affected mainly railways, with the theft of screws and other materials from the railway, public transport, with the stoning of trains and buses, public lighting systems, with the theft of electric cables and lamps, as well as water distribution, with the drilling of pipes, for the sale of water.

In May of this year, a Chinese citizen, found in possession of 52 manhole covers and more than 3000 meters of electric cables, was arrested by the Angolan police authorities, in the municipality of Viana, outskirts of Luanda, for allegedly buying these stolen goods.
