Portuguese Penafiel hires Angolan international Mateus

Angolan international Mateus, who played for Boavista, from the 1st Portuguese league, will now reinforce Penafiel's attack, in a contract valid for one season, the club of the II football league confirmed in a statement.

:

"The player Mateus, ex-Boavista, signs a one-year contract with FC Penafiel", can be read in the brief note published by the Portuguese emblem on their social networks.

The 36-year-old footballer "is a very experienced player and will also bring quality to the front, since he can play in any position," Penafiel's sports director told Lusa news agency.

Mateus is the sixth reinforcement of the team, after the hiring of the right defender Vitinha, ex-Lusitânia de Lourosa (for two seasons, until June 2022), of the left defender Simãozinho, ex-Desportivo de Chaves (2022), of the midfielder Júnior Franco , ex-Mafra (2021), and from the extremes Pedro Prazeres, ex-Leça (2022), and Wagner, ex-Desportivo de Chaves (2021).

To close the squad at the orders of the new coach Pedro Ribeiro, ex-Belenenses SAD, four more players are missing: a goalkeeper, a central defender, an attacking midfielder and a forward, to make up for Alfredo's departure, who meanwhile terminated contract.

Penafiel, ranked 15th in 2019/20 (result obtained after 24 matches, before the interruption of the championship due to the covid-19 pandemic), fulfills the fourth week of work and for now has abdicated the preparation games, taking into account the care related to the pandemic caused by the new coronavirus.

The working group has already carried out two screening tests, before the first training and on the 14th day of work, with no positive cases.
