Joana Lina was elected with 1733 votes in favour, 25 against, six null and one blank vote. The vote took place at the 6th extraordinary conference of the party, which was held by videoconference and was attended by 1765 delegates.

Joana Lina will thus replace Luther Rescova, former governor of Luanda and current governor of Uige.

In a statement, quoted by Angop, Luísa Damião, vice-president of MPLA, who spoke during the event, left an appeal: to strengthen the cohesion of the party, so that it can face future challenges.

Luísa Damião also made it clear that it is necessary to improve the functioning of the party and recalled that the MPLA has an important role in the political struggle of the Angolans, underlining that the militants must defend the principles and values of the party ideals.
