Country overcomes barrier of 2000 covid-19 infections

Angola registered this Thursday 29 new covid-19 infections and one death, totalling 2044 cases and 93 deaths, announced the Secretary of State for Health, Franco Mufinda.

The new cases, registered in the last 24 hours, are from the province of Zaire (7) and the rest from the province of Luanda.

Among those infected, 16 are men and 13 women, aged between four months and 66 years.

The case that ended in death concerns a 53-year-old Angolan citizen. A further 44 people were considered recovered from the disease, making a total of 742 recovered.

"Of the 1209 [cases] that are active, six are critical, under invasive mechanical ventilation, 19 are severe, 28 moderate, 25 light and 1131 asymptomatic," Franco Mufinda said.

In the last 24 hours, the laboratory processed 533 samples, of which 29 were positive, pointing the cumulative of this chapter to 51,607 processed samples, of which 2044 were positive.

The governor informed that the sanitary cordon established 20 days ago, in the municipality of Soyo, Zaire province, in the logistic base of Kuanda, where the companies Angola LNG and Kuanda Ltda. operate, was raised this Thursday.

The covid-19 pandemic has already caused at least 787,918 deaths and infected more than 22.4 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a balance sheet made by the French agency AFP.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected at the end of December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.

After Europe succeeded China as the centre of the pandemic in February, the American continent now has the most confirmed cases and the most deaths.
