Country registered 64 new cases of covid-19 and one death in the last 24 hours

The country has registered 64 more covid-19 infections and one death in the past 24 hours, as well as 27 recovered patients, according to Helga Freitas, the national director of public health.

In total, Angola now totals 1344 cases, including 503 recovered and 59 dead.

Of the 64 new cases, 58 are from Luanda, 4 from Cunene province and one from Bié province, aged between three and 78, 53 male and 23 female.

Of the 782 active cases, four are in critical condition, with invasive mechanical ventilation, 18 in severe condition and 760 asymptomatic.

The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 694,000 lives and infected more than 18.3 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a report by the French agency AFP.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected at the end of December in Wuhan, a city in central China.

In Africa there are 20,630 confirmed dead in more than 970,000 infected in 55 countries, according to the latest pandemic statistics there.
