Police concerned about fuel smuggling to RDCongo

Police are concerned about fuel trafficking to the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRCongo), where large quantities of cubic meters are smuggled daily, the corporation's commander general said Wednesday.

:

Paulo de Almeida, who was speaking at the Border Guard Police's 42nd anniversary celebration ceremony, said that arrests of drug dealers and seizures of mainly gasoline and diesel are made almost every day.

"We think we have to do a study on this issue of trafficking, to actually cut where that fuel comes from, who supplies that fuel. There comes a chain of structures that have to collaborate in order to identify the potential suppliers of this traffic," said Paulo de Almeida, in statements issued by Angolan public radio.

According to the commander general of the National Police, this is a situation that is worrying the authorities, because "they are cubic meters of fuel, whether it is gasoline or diesel, and that this hurts the economy greatly.

The commander general stressed that there are other policies also being developed by the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Petroleum or Sonangol that are doing the study to curb this business and the high demand for fuel, especially on the DRCongo side.

Despite the difficulties faced by the Border Guard Police, Paulo de Almeida praised the effort he makes in controlling fuel trafficking and illegal immigration.

"The police have done as much as possible, they have played a very important role in containment and protection, but it is insufficient, since it is a rather large extension with great difficulties of relevance, geography, access and movement," he said, pointing out that at present they are the forces most sacrificed in the country.
