Alleged scammers use false profile of angolan bishop to extort citizens

A group of alleged scammers in Bengo province is using a false profile in the social networks of the new local bishop, Maurício Camuto, to extort money from citizens, reports this Wednesday the Catholic Broadcaster of Angola.

According to the Chancellor of the Diocesan Curia of Caxito, Simon Nfinda Wankunku, at least seven of the faithful have been circumvented in amounts ranging from 60,000 to 100,000 kwanzas under the pretext of getting apartments in downtown Kapari.

"Unfortunately we confirmed this information, since we have already been knocked at the door to present these complaints by the victims and with them we were able to realize that the information is real, violating the figure and above all the good name of our diocesan bishop", said the priest.

According to Father Wankunku, "robberies, scams and bad faith" are the "reprehensible" acts carried out by the group of alleged scammers, whose victims are the local faithful, a matter that "continues to be investigated for later referral to the authorities of law".

The new bishop of the diocese of Caxito, province of Bengo, Mauricio Agostinho Camuto, was appointed by Pope Francis on June 15.

His episcopal ordination took place on August 16, 2020, that is, the prelate has been directing that Angolan diocese for 10 days.
