Five dead and 17 seriously injured at the weekend on Luanda's roads

Five people died and 17 were seriously injured as a result of 19 road accidents recorded at the weekend in Luanda, police announced.

According to the information officer of the Luanda provincial command of the National Police, Quintino Ferreira, material damage estimated at over seven million kwanzas has also been recorded.

In the same period, 297 fines were also imposed for various violations of the Highway Code and 14 motorcycles and four vehicles were seized.

Police actions also culminated in the arrest of 157 suspects involved in crimes, the seizure of 15 firearms and the recovery of one vehicle.

With regard to the work of the Civil Protection and Fire Department, eight fires were reported this past weekend in the municipalities of Viana, Luanda, Cacuaco and Talatona, with presumed causes of short circuit (five cases) and gas leak (three cases).

According to the spokesman for the Civil Protection and Fire Department of Luanda, Faustino Miguêns, two fuel spills were also neutralized on the public highway, in the municipality of Talatona, urban district of Camama, and in the municipality of Viana, on National Road number 230, caused by two vehicles, following a road accident and by poor technical condition of the vehicle.

The civil forces were also called to intervene in pre-hospital services, which culminated in the rescue of 17 citizens in hospital units, victims of road accidents, physical aggression and by various pathologies, in five municipalities of Luanda.
