Mobile planetarium arrives in Cabinda thanks to the 'Science on Wheels' project

Starting this Thursday, students in Cabinda can learn about science with the traveling project "Science on Wheels." Following visits to the provinces of Namibe, Huíla, Benguela, and Cuanza Sul, Cabinda will host an expedition under this project, sponsored by the Luanda Science Center (CCL) and which will remain in Cabinda until the 12th of this month.

Thus, between this Thursday and Saturday, "preschool and high school students in Cabinda will have access to exhibitions, interactive modules, a mobile planetarium, and plenty of knowledge and fun provided by the 'Science on Wheels' project, an initiative that promotes experimental science education nationwide."

In a statement sent to VerAngola, the CCL explains that this project features several interactive modules, covering topics such as earthquakes, rocks and minerals, among many others.

"The 'Science on Wheels' (CSR) program, a CCL initiative that has already reached 4283 students, consists of several highly interesting interactive modules, including the earthquake table, with explanations about plate tectonics and structural reinforcement; conical mirror anamorphosis, dedicated to illusions of curvature; and modules on electrical conductors and insulators, fluid flow rates, rocks and minerals, vortices, and fluid viscosity," the statement reads.

Additionally, during the presentations, students can also use "metal detectorists, play the 'Pythagoras Puzzle,' based on the famous theorem, and apply your imagination and spatial intelligence in the fun '3-D Tic Tac Toe' competition".

According to Hélder Francisco, Deputy Director General for the Scientific Area of the CCL, this project helps "promote science and technology-related initiatives."

"This is an innovative project that helps fulfill the CCL's core mission of promoting science and technology-related initiatives, popularizing and elevating scientific and technological knowledge, and stimulating scientific curiosity and learning in an interactive and fun way among the general public, and young people and children in particular," Hélder Francisco noted, as quoted in the statement.

Thus, 'Science on Wheels' "aims to promote the experimental teaching of STEM [science, technology, engineering, and mathematics] in public and private educational institutions nationwide, from preschool to higher education, as well as in vulnerable communities."

After launching in February of this year in Namibe, the project has already traveled to at least four other provinces.

The project launched on February 10th at the "Welwitshia Mirabilis" Secondary School No. 58M in Moçâmedes (Namibe).

In June, 'Science on Wheels' headed to Huíla. Later that month, the project embarked on a third expedition to Benguela.

The fourth exhibition took place on June 10th in Sumbe, in the province of Cuanza Sul, and now it's Cabinda's turn to host this project.
