Constitutional Court rejects legalization of the Partido Patriota Republicano

The Constitutional Court rejected the application for registration of the political party project called Partido Patriota Republicano, with the acronym PPR, by Carlos Alberto Contreiras Gouveia, on suspicion of having presented fraudulent documentation.

The ruling by Judge Laurinda Cardoso, President of the Constitutional Court, dated June 11th and released this Thursday, states that, during the technical and legal review to assess the legal conformity of the documents supporting the party's registration application, well-founded concerns arose regarding the authenticity and possible fraudulent creation of many of the attached documents.

According to the ruling, inconsistencies were found in the minutes of the founding congress regarding the attendance list used to determine the quorum, due to difficulties in verifying the identities of the participants (signatories).

Irregularities were also identified in the criminal record certificates of the coordinator, Carlos Alberto Contreiras Gouveia, and the other members of the Installation Committee.

The National Directorate of Identification, Registries, and Notaries, commissioned by the Constitutional Court to verify the authenticity of Carlos Alberto Contreiras Gouveia's criminal record certificate, as well as those of other members, responded that, "after reviewing the database, it was determined that the Criminal Record certificates are inauthentic."

"Due to clear evidence of manipulation and proven document forgery," the President of the Constitutional Court rejected the registration request, ordering the cancellation of the installation committee's accreditation and the issuance of a certificate to the Public Prosecutor's Office for the appropriate criminal action "in light of the evidence of document forgery."

Carlos Alberto Contreiras Gouveia, a politician for several years, was a founding leader of the now-defunct Republican Party of Angola (Prea) and called for votes for the MPLA in previous elections, although he has more recently expressed dissatisfaction with the ruling party.
