According to information provided by Deputy Feliz Sílvia, head of the national group of the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique within the CPLP, during her two-year term, Mozambique will focus on strengthening democracy and the rule of law and monitoring the implementation of the mobility agreement between member countries, including holding regular meetings to ensure agreements that facilitate mobility within the CPLP.
He also stated that Mozambique will focus on attracting private investment by harmonizing customs and tax rates between member countries and promoting the Portuguese language and the culture of the CPLP countries.
The Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique is chaired by Margarida Talapa, a member of the ruling Front for the Liberation of Mozambique (Frelimo), who will assume the position of president of the AP-CPLP.
Mozambique has been hosting the 14th Parliamentary Assembly of the CPLP since Monday, with the participation of more than 100 delegates, including presidents of parliaments from member states.
Tuesday's schedule includes interventions by the presidents or heads of delegations attending the assembly under the theme "Promotion of Peace, Democracy, and Good Governance in the CPLP," the presentation and approval of proposed committee resolutions and other draft resolutions, motions, and a presentation by the host country of the next AP-CPLP meeting.
In July 2024, Mozambique hosted the annual meeting, the 13th ordinary session, of the AP-CPLP, chaired by Teresa Efua Asangono, President of the Senate of Equatorial Guinea. Equatorial Guinea, a country that had expressed difficulty in hosting the annual event, will also be held.
Founded in 1996, the CPLP comprises nine countries: Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Timor-Leste.
