According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, seen by VerAngola, the Angolan leader arrived in the capital of Equatorial Guinea this Wednesday.
At this session – to be held on the 10th and 11th of this month at the Sipopo Conference Center – Téte António will assume the role of acting president of the AU Executive Council.
"The Angolan head of diplomacy is participating in the meeting as acting president of the African Union Executive Council, a significant event for the continent's integration process and for consolidating the coordinated diplomatic action of member states, aiming to renew strategic ambitions for the common objectives of the African Union's Agenda 2063," the statement reads.
The session will be organized into three parts: the public session, which "includes the opening ceremony, featuring interventions by entities from the host country and African Union structures"; the closed-door session, which is "dedicated to the analysis of the working documents of the AU bodies" and the "moment of the election and appointment of the new members of the bodies of this continental organization."
"This is the first Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union since the Republic of Angola assumed the rotating presidency of this continental organization made up of 55 African countries, created with the objective of promoting the political, economic, and social integration of the continent, in addition to ensuring peace, security, and sustainable development among its members," the statement further states.
