Nagrelha was one of more than 650 figures decorated between this Wednesday and Thursday by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço. The symbol of Angolan kuduro died in 2022, so his decoration was made posthumously.

In this sense, the commemorative medal of the 50th anniversary of independence in the Peace and Development category was presented by the head of state to the musician's wife.

Speaking to Angop on the occasion, Wueza Mendes also expressed her gratitude and happiness for the distinction made to her husband.

In this Thursday's ceremony, in addition to Negrelha, the head of state also decorated Moniz de Almeida, Sabino Henda and Dog Murras. The three also received medals in the Peace and Development category.

Moniz de Almeida said he sees this tribute as a lever to continue working: "Where Angola is made up of more than 20 million people and you being chosen is because there is a big light at the end of the tunnel looking at the work we have done. So, this gives us more strength to continue with our work", he said, quoted by Angop.

Dog Murras said that it is a "fair recognition". "It is a fair recognition, mainly because of the distinction in the name of peace and development of the country that I have made with my music, with my attitude, with my stance and with all my aspirations. In the end, what we want is a better Angola", he said.

The musician also applauded the initiative: "It is a father who looks after his children, it is the government, it is the Nation. The Nation of Angola is our mother, our father. So it realizes that in these 50 years on the road there are children who have given themselves for it. And I will never forget that moment".

In turn, Sabino Henda considered this a "very high moment" in his life. "This is a very important moment in my life and I must thank all those who helped me reach this moment", he said.

Téte António, Minister of Foreign Affairs, was another of the recipients. On the occasion, he said that the award is a tribute that goes beyond personal merit, also encompassing the Angolan people and the country's leadership, writes Angop.

The third award ceremony was concluded this Thursday as part of the celebrations of the country's 50th anniversary of independence.

"The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, concluded early this evening, Thursday 3 July, the awarding process for the third group of personalities deserving of public recognition for their relevant deeds in favour of the Angolan homeland", said the Presidency of the Republic, in a statement to which VerAngola had access.

The awarding of decorations that took place between this Wednesday and Thursday "corresponded to the month of June, with the fourth round of distinctions scheduled for two weeks' time".
