In Cape Verde, the parliamentary leader, who left the country this Thursday, was received by the Angolan ambassador, Agostinho Tavares, and by the first secretary of the National Assembly of Cape Verde, according to a statement from the National Assembly to which VerAngola had access.

On the occasion, the president of the National Assembly said she was bringing a "message of friendship, solidarity, fraternity and cooperation between the two countries, both of which are members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the CPLP, the Parliaments of the Francophonie and the African Union and work in favour of the development and well-being of their populations".

"Our States, Angola and Cape Verde, are committed to the prosperity of our peoples, to global peace and, above all, to a climate of understanding at regional and international level", said Carolina Cerqueira, when she was boarding for Cape Verde.

On this mission, Carolina Cerqueira is leading an Angolan parliamentary delegation. According to the parliamentary leader, the aforementioned delegation, "comprising the deputies Justino Pinto de Andrade, 4th Vice-President of the National Assembly, José Semedo and Sara Fialho, will also participate in the special session taking place in the Assembly of the Republic of Cape Verde, in reference to the 5th of July".

For the president of the parliament, this is a good opportunity, "for Angola to join, once again, its Cape Verdean brothers", in what will be "a great national celebration".

The central act of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Cape Verde's independence is scheduled for this Saturday in the city of Praia. "The event's programme will include a thanksgiving mass, the laying of a wreath at the Amílcar Cabral Memorial and a solemn session in the National Assembly, with the intervention of the Head of State, José Maria Neves", reads the statement.

For the afternoon, the programme includes "cultural activities on the Plateau, including musical shows, dance performances, open-air cinema sessions, traditional fashion shows and exhibitions".

According to the parliament's note, some heads of state have already confirmed their presence at the celebrations. These include the President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, Sissoco Embaló (Guinea-Bissau), Diomaye Faye (Senegal), Carlos Vila Nova (São Tomé and Príncipe) and the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, Henrique.

"Among the guests are also the Prime Minister of Mozambique, Maria Benvinda Levy, as well as Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations", the note states.
