Handball: Angola starts to lose at the Paris Olympic Games

Angola debuted with a defeat in the first game of group B of the preliminary round of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which will run until August in France. The national senior women's handball team faced the Netherlands this Thursday, having lost by a difference of three goals.

According to the Angolan Handball Federation, the 'Pérolas' first game in Paris ended with the score 34-31, in favor of the Dutch team.

Angola even started the game well, having been responsible for opening the scoring.

The first half of the game was balanced, with Angola and the Netherlands maintaining little difference in goals.

At one point, the two were tied four times (14-14; 15-15; 17-17 and 18-18), but just before the break the Netherlands managed to take the lead, with the game continuing for break 19-18.

In the second half, the Netherlands managed to increase their advantage, reaching the end of the game winning 34-31.

Angola is in group B, also composed of the Netherlands, France, Hungary, Spain and Brazil.

Vilma Nenganga and Helena Paulo, both with six goals, and Juliana Machado, with five, were the Angolan players who were in evidence in achieving goals, while in the Dutch team the highlight belonged to Ângela Malesteine ​​and Estaiana Polman, both with eight, and Dione Housheer, with seven.

The four best-positioned teams from each of the groups of six advance to the quarter-finals, a stage that the Angolan team, which has eight consecutive appearances at the Olympic Games, seeks to reach for the second time.

The national team continues its participation in the women's Olympic handball tournament on Sunday, against Spain, after which it will face Hungary on Tuesday, France on August 1st and Brazil on August 3rd.

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games will take place until August 11th in the French capital.
