Kali considers Angola's group favorable in qualifying for the 2026 World Cup

The Angolan team is in Group D and faces their counterparts from Cape Verde, Cameroon, Eswatini, Mauritius and Libya.

"A draw is always a matter of luck. We know that the favorite teams are the strongest, the top seeds, we were chosen by Cameroon, I think that even in this aspect we were lucky, because Cameroon is not with that strength of other times. I think that as top seed it is a selection that we can also fight on equal terms", said the former player.

The former captain of the Angolan national team, who spent most of his career in Portugal, points to Cape Verde as the second most difficult opponent for Angola.

The former Angolan national team scorer Akwá, who also played for Portugal, namely at Benfica, said it was a complicated group for Angola.

"It's a complicated, difficult group, because today there are no easy groups or teams. The Cape Verde national team, ever since I've known myself as a player or a fan, I don't remember having chosen them to qualify for any competition", he said.

The qualifying phase will be played over two rounds, with the winner of each of the nine groups qualifying directly for the World Cup, which will take place in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The four best runners-up will play a play-off to determine the representative of the African Football Confederation in the final FIFA qualification tournament, which will bring together a representative of each of the confederations of the organization, with the exception of UEFA, plus an additional selection of the organizing confederation, in this case CONCACAF (Football Confederation of North, Central America and the Caribbean).
