Basic basket product prices drop 38 percent this week

This week (July 4th to 10th), a drop in the prices of the main products of the basic food basket is expected in the order of 38 percent compared to November 2021.

According to forecasts by the Strategic Food Reserve (REA), wheat flour (25-kilogram package) will be sold at 8,200 kwanzas, against the previous 23,033 kwanzas, while 25 kilograms of cornmeal should drop from 13,800 kwanzas to 6025 kwanzas

The same amount of thai rice will go from 11,737 kwanzas to 7000 kwanzas, while 25 kilograms of myanmar rice will drop from 10 thousand kwanzas to 7000 kwanzas.

Forecasts also indicate that sugar (50 kilograms) will fall to 18,350 kwanzas, against the previous 24,200 kwanzas.

There will also be drops in the prices of pinto beans (25 kilograms package), which will drop from 24 thousand kwanzas to 17 thousand kwanzas, and in the chicken box (10 kilograms), which will go from 10,190 kwanzas to 7524 kwanzas.

REA data also indicate that soybean oil (12 liters) will increase from 11,200 kwanzas to 11,300 kwanzas.

These prices, according to the REA, are valid throughout the country and reflect a general decrease of 38.5 percent compared to November last year.

In the international market, according to REA data, there was an increase of 1.36 percent compared to the previous week and compared to November 2021, there was a high increase of 20 percent, also due to the effects of covid-19 and the war in Ukraine.
