UNITA presents electoral manifesto and promises Government “of competent and not partisan”

This Saturday, UNITA presented its electoral manifesto in Benguela, with the leader of the largest opposition party calling for an alternation vote, promising “a government of competent people, and not of supporters, to serve Angola”.

The National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) presented the manifesto in the presence of number 1 on the list and candidate for President of the Republic, Adalberto da Costa Júnior, and number 2 and candidate for vice president, the coordinator of the political project PRA JÁ Servir Angola, Abel Chivukuvuku, on the day that marks the beginning of the campaign.

The popular Angolan singer Bonga is the interpreter of the official song of the campaign, which was also presented this Saturday and which "has already gone viral", according to the director of the campaign and leader of the "Galo Negro" party, Paulo Lukamba Gato.

Before the presentation of the manifesto, Adalberto da Costa Júnior again insisted on the "plural vision" that the party, supported by a "broad patriotic front for alternation" has for Angola, promising "a dialogue between different people, beyond party walls".

"Our project is the long-delayed construction of Angola, a country that is not even capable of granting citizenship to its children", stressed the president of UNITA, showing confidence in the "daily demonstrations of support" and in the motto chosen for the campaign, "The time is now".

"These are not ordered newspaper titles and polls that intend to deceive Angolans", said the UNITA leader, who was greeted with a crowd shower the day before in Benguela, Angola's second largest city, criticizing the public media.

Adalberto da Costa Júnior promises "a government of competent people and not of supporters to serve Angola", to rescue what was called into question during the five years of governance of João Lourenço, President of the Republic and of the MPLA, the party that has governed Angola for 38 years and its main adversary.

"The parties are not more important than the country, it is Angola that counts", said the UNITA leader, assuming commitments such as the reform of the State and party administration and the realization of local power within a year.

The manifesto was presented by the prime minister of the shadow government, João Vahekeni, and consists of a part listing the priority challenges and another in which the strategic axes of governance are defined.

Among the challenges are the fight against poverty, health, housing development, rural and urban development, education and culture, family, gender and child equality, youth and sports, women and social inclusion for former combatants.

Four strategic governance axes are defined: national emergency, State reform, social responsibility and solidarity, and economic and sustainable development.

UNITA presents itself to the general elections scheduled for 24 August with an inclusive and participatory government electoral program, supported by the United Patriotic Front that includes members of civil society and other party forces.

The session, which precedes the launch of the electoral campaign, was also attended by members of the Democratic Bloc, who are part of UNITA's lists, such as Justino Pinto de Andrade, UNITA leaders, including the provincial secretary, Adriano Sapiñala, and members of society. as the businessman Francisco Viana, candidate for deputy, recently separated from the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA).
