João Lourenço receives Central African Republic counterpart

The President, João Lourenço, meets on Monday with his counterpart from the Central African Republic (CAR), Faustin Archange Touadéra. The president of CAR arrived this Monday in Luanda as part of a working visit to Angola.

:

"The President of the Central African Republic, Faustin Archange Touadéra, is visiting Luanda on Monday for talks with his Angolan counterpart, João Lourenço," a note posted on the Presidency's Facebook page reads.

The meeting, which served to discuss the security situation in that country, lasted a little over an hour and no statements were made to the press, according to Angop.

The CAR faces several security challenges, "with numerous insurgent groups fighting the authorities," the statement said.

The statement also said that "there is a diplomatic effort within the International Conference for the Great Lakes Region to lift" the arms embargo, decreed against the government of that country several years ago by the international community. The effort is based on the fact that the "circumstances that had led to the drastic measure are no longer the same today," the statement adds.
