Covid-19: Angola announces 77 more cases, six deaths and 29 recovered patients

Angola has reported 77 new cases of covid-19 and six deaths in the past 24 hours, while 29 people have recovered from the disease, according to the epidemiological bulletin of the National Directorate of Public Health.

The cases were reported in Luanda (44), Cunene (14), Moxico (nine), Zaire (five), Huambo (two), Benguela (two) and Malanje (one), referring to people between 4 and 87 years old. Of the total number of newly infected, 44 are male and 33 are female.

Of the six deaths, five refer to men and one to a woman, and their ages range between 40 and 78 years.

A total of 29 people, between 6 and 69 years old, were reported recovered, all in Luanda.

The laboratories processed 1897 samples and the accumulated number of samples is 682,907, with a positivity rate of 5.9 percent.

The epidemiological picture updated since the beginning of the pandemic in the country until today points to 39,958 cases, of which 34,327 recovered, 4696 active (among them, 10 critical and 15 serious) and 935 deaths.

A total of 88 patients are hospitalized and 182 people are in institutional quarantine.

The covid-19 pandemic has caused at least 4,028,446 deaths worldwide, resulting from more than 186.3 million cases of infection with the new coronavirus, according to the most recent tally by Agence France-Presse.

The respiratory disease is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, detected in late 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China, and currently with variants identified in countries such as the United Kingdom, India, South Africa, Brazil and Peru.
