Two Angolan women arrested at Brazilian airport for international drug trafficking

Two Angolan citizens were arrested last weekend at the international airport in São Paulo, Brazil, for international drug trafficking after narcotics were found in their luggage, police sources said Monday.

:

The first case was registered on Saturday, when officials from the Brazilian Federal Revenue Service identified, through an X-ray mechanism, an organic substance hidden in the structures of a suitcase that arrived from a flight coming from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

"The suitcase was accompanied on the baggage conveyors and as soon as its owner returned it, she was approached and taken to the Federal Police (PF). In the structures of the suitcase of the passenger, a national of Angola, were found almost six kilograms of methamphetamine in crystal form," said the PF in a statement, adding that the suspect was arrested "in flagrante".

The second occurrence took place on Sunday night and involved the seizure of almost 36 kilograms of cocaine in the suitcase of an Angolan woman.

On the occasion, federal police officers were called by employees who operate the x-ray machines in the hold of checked luggage and, after analyzing the images, they located the owner - a passenger, an Angolan national - and took her to accompany the inspection of her belongings.

In the suitcase, inside sheet packaging, volumes containing cocaine were found.

"The suspect had checked a total of 17 suitcases and all of them were taken to the police headquarters and searched. Three of the suitcases belonging to the passenger, contained cocaine concealed in the same way. The total of the drugs seized amounted to almost 36 kilograms," reported the PF.

The women will be presented to the Federal Justice where they will answer for the crime of international drug trafficking.

Also during the weekend, according to the corporation, a Mexican and a Brazilian woman were also arrested at the international airport of São Paulo, after seven kilograms of amphetamines and one kilogram of cocaine were detected in their luggage, respectively.
