According to a press release issued Thursday by the Zaire Provincial Command of the National Police, the vessel was intercepted in the Pululu-Pululu and Luamba river channels, resulting in its seizure as well as the fuel.
The note, cited by Angop, points out that the seizure resulted from an operative patrol carried out in the mangroves of the Zaire river.
The more than 2,700 liters of fuel were packaged in 25-liter drums and would be sold on the black market in DR Congo, the document also indicates, and both the boat and the goods were delivered to the General Tax Administration of Soyo for proper treatment.
The Angolan authorities have been dealing for several years with the phenomenon of fuel trafficking, especially in the northern part of the country, which has economic consequences for the country, according to officials linked to the sector.
Every week the police authorities announce the seizure of large quantities of fuel, mostly destined for the Democratic Republic of Congo.
