Lunda Norte: more than 20 years later, bridge allows crossing the Luembe river again

Ernesto Muangala, governor of Lunda Norte, this Monday inaugurated a metal bridge over the Luembe river, in the municipality of Cambulo, with a capacity to support 60 tons.

The infrastructure thus restores circulation over the river and the connection between the locality of Cassanguide and the commune of Canzar – close to the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The bridge, which was impassable for over 20 years but was rebuilt in two months, is 77 meters long and 4.25 meters wide, benefiting more than 3500 inhabitants, according to a statement from the provincial government that VerAngola had access to.

On the occasion, the deputy governor for Technical Services and Infrastructure, Lino dos Santos, stressed that the replacement of the bridge will benefit the populations of the districts of Cassanguide and Canzar, as well as the Angolan Armed Forces, stationed on the border with the Republic. Democratic Republic of Congo and also the Cassanguide mining project.

The construction of this infrastructure, which also seeks to boost trade between Angola and the DRC, is the result of a public and private partnership and is part of the road network improvement program.

Since the beginning of the reconstruction process, 1162 kilometers of roads have been rehabilitated in Lunda Norte province, as well as 34 metal and reinforced concrete bridges have been built.
