Bié authorities denounce vandalization of schools

The authorities of the province of Bié denounced the vandalization of about 70 schools, in the last four months, a period of suspension of classes due to the covid-19.

The municipal director of education in Cuito, the capital of Bié, Ângelo Chissule, quoted by Angop, said that primary and lower secondary schools were vandalized, and the Criminal Investigation Service was investigating the case.

Ângelo Chissule said that the survey of stolen means and other acts of vandalism, such as the destruction and removal of windows, doors, roofs and sanitary ware, is being carried out to assess the damage.

According to the director of the provincial office of Institutional Communication and Press of the Ministry of the Interior in Bié, José Daniel, at this stage of the pandemic it became difficult to combine the surveillance actions of the educational institutions and the patrolling in the neighborhoods.

José Daniel stressed that it is not the responsibility of the National Police to protect school facilities during the night, but of schools, by hiring private security companies.

The official stressed that the School Brigade only has the function of ensuring the safety, order and public tranquility of the students, even so, the 43 seconded personnel are insufficient, with the need to reinforce 50 more police officers.

"The role of the Police does not aim to guarantee the school facilities at night, but to ensure the physical protection of users", he reinforced.

Regarding the hiring of private security companies, Ângelo Chissule said that previously primary and secondary schools of the first cycle had private security guards, but after the abolition, in 2019, the financial contributions of the parents, it became unsustainable to maintain this service. .
