In less than 10 days, "SOS Criança" line received almost 20,000 complaints related to violence against minors

The call centre "SOS Criança" - which was launched on 16 June and aims to receive and deal with complaints of violence against minors - has received almost 20,000 complaints in less than 10 days.

According to figures revealed by the Ministry of Social Action, Family and Women's Promotion, cited by Novo Jornal, between 16 and 25 June, the centre received a total of 19,753 accusations related to violence against minors. Once the bills were done, the SOS Criança line received around 1700 calls per day.

Escape from paternity was the main complaint filed, followed by physical violence, exploitation of child labour, neglect of children and practices of witchcraft and sexual violence.

Luanda leads the table of provinces with the most complaints, followed by Benguela, Huambo, Huíla and Cabinda.

The data also indicate that the main complaints were made by men (55 per cent), 35 per cent by women and 10 per cent by children.

The telephone line, whose number is 15015, operates between 8am and 4pm. From that time on, calls are forwarded to the Integrated Public Security Centre.
