Troy Fitrell, Senior Director of the U.S. Department of State, called the project the “crown jewel” of U.S.-African cooperation, highlighting a $5 billion investment in the project, a strategic rail link between Angola and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
To reinforce this commitment, the U.S. delegation—composed of Troy Fitrell, Senior Officer in the Bureau of African Affairs at the U.S. Department of State; Florizelle Liser, President and CEO of the Corporate Council on Africa; Noah Zaring, Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Angola and São Tomé and Príncipe; senior officials from the U.S. Finance Corporation, EXIM Bank, the U.S. Departments of Commerce and Agriculture, and the U.S. Trade Representative—joined Angolan officials on a tour of the Corridor’s infrastructure in Lobito.
This visit represents more than a symbolic gesture: it demonstrates the firm commitment of the United States to support the modernization of infrastructure, promote economic growth and generate sustainable opportunities for local communities, says the United States embassy in Luanda, in a statement to which VerAngola had access.
