The fraud was discovered when one of the victims, aged 59, tried to travel to Brazil and, at the 4 de Fevereiro Airport, discovered that the visa in his passport was fake, and he was detained and taken to a police station.
According to a statement from the Criminal Investigation Service of Luanda, following an operation in the Golfe commune (Baquita Coche neighbourhood), two Angolan citizens, aged 38 and 40, were arrested.
In the possession of the detainees, the police found 49 national passports, two printers, two international vaccination cards, a notebook and 22 visa stamps, materials used to falsify travel visas for Brazil.
According to the statement, the suspects charged 1.3 million kwanzas for each fake visa.
The total amount charged was about 36.4 million kwanzas, but authorities say that if they had issued all 49 visas, the forgers would have collected 63.7 million kwanzas.
The men are charged with criminal association, document forgery and travel visa forgery.
