In a message alluding to International Children's Day – celebrated this Sunday –, the head of state highlighted the responsibility of Angolan families towards the development of their children.
"Today [Sunday] marks International Children's Day – a milestone in the calendar defined by the United Nations for Humanity to reflect on the problems faced by this segment of the world's population – I highlight the ongoing responsibility of Angolan families towards the harmonious development of their youngest members", he said, in a message released by CIPRA and to which VerAngola had access.
In the letter, the President argues that "the duty to protect children must always be present".
"In a world of increasingly huge challenges, we must always bear in mind the duty to protect children, making their right to education, health and adequate food effective and urgent", he says.
"We cannot forget the suffering and vulnerability of girls and boys in Africa and other parts of the world, particularly in the suffering Gaza Strip, who are victims of the neglect and gratuitous violence of those who deliberately trample on the most basic rights of their fellow men", he added.
João Lourenço also asked that "Humanity unite in the mission of building a better future."
"May Humanity unite in the mission of building a better future, in which children can enjoy broad happiness within families that truly make them an absolute priority," he concluded.
On Saturday, the President of the Republic also shared a message congratulating the new president of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Sidi Ould Tah.
"Allow me the honor, on my own behalf, on behalf of the Government of Angola and on behalf of the African Union, to present to Your Excellency our warmest and most fraternal congratulations, wishing you continued success and prosperity," said João Lourenço in the message.
