This first case concerns a 30-year-old woman.
"The health authorities of the municipality of Cuvango, in Huíla, confirmed this Wednesday the registration of the first case of cholera, in the locality of Indungo, where a 30-year-old citizen from Matala, in the neighborhood of 07, is infected", informed the municipal administration of Cuvango, in a statement to which VerAngola had access.
According to the municipal director of Health, Cláudio Afonso Maria, the patient's home is also being monitored.
"The patient's household, composed of more than seven members, is also being monitored", says the note.
On the occasion, the official "reinforced the appeal to the population to adopt preventive measures such as frequent washing of hands with soap and water, maintenance of personal hygiene, treatment of drinking water and not to defecate in the open".
At a national level, in the last 24 hours, the country registered 116 new cases of this disease and one death.
According to data from the Ministry of Health's information bulletin, cited by Angop, the new cases were registered in the provinces of Cuanza Sul (33), Huíla (28), Lunda Norte (19), Namibe (16), Benguela (5), Luanda (4), Cabinda (4), Icolo and Bengo (2), Malanje (2), Zaire (2) and Bengo (1).
The death was registered in the province of Lunda Norte.
Since the beginning of the cholera outbreak in January, the country has recorded 25,665 cases of the disease and 736 deaths.
