Cazombo: unique project in the country accumulates solar energy during the day to be used at night

A solar energy production project with the capacity to generate 25 megawatts will be implemented in the municipality of Cazombo. The first of its kind in the country, it will feature a battery storage system to ensure continuous supply at night.

The information was provided by the President of the Republic at the end of a field trip to the municipality, in the province of Moxico Leste.

João Lourenço visited the site where the energy project is underway and highlighted that this project represents a revolution in the region's energy supply, as it will eliminate dependence on fossil fuels and the convoys of trucks that transport diesel from Luanda or Benguela to power conventional generators.

“Do you know what will power this new source? This sun! This sun that we are wasting, that no one values, is what will be the diesel for this energy production system”, declared the President.

The Head of State explained that the new solar energy production system has a significant advantage over previous similar projects already inaugurated in the country, as it includes the capacity to store energy captured during the day for use at night.

“At night, you won’t notice. There’s no sun, but the energy continues. The energy won’t go away, because it will be stored,” said João Lourenço, detailing how the battery system will operate, which will allow for an uninterrupted supply of electricity to homes, schools and public offices.

The project is part of the national energy diversification strategy and represents a milestone in reducing dependence on fossil fuels, contributing to a more sustainable and economic development of the new province of Moxico Leste, according to the Government.
