Urban public transport in Luanda reinforced with 12 new buses

The Luanda provincial government (GPL) recently delivered 12 new buses to six of the nine operators operating in the province. This reinforcement is part of the commitment to continue improving mobility.

The 12 buses, whose delivery took place last Friday, are part of a batch of more than 30 vehicles, informed GPL, in a statement to which VerAngola had access.

"As part of its commitment to continue improving the mobility of people and goods, the provincial government of Luanda delivered, this Friday, June 21st, 12 new buses as part of a batch of more than 30 vehicles, delivered to those responsible for six urban public transport operators in the province", the note reads.

According to GPL, the buses were delivered, to the TCUL operational base, by the acting provincial governor, Jorge Miguêns Augusto.

TCUL, Macom, Ango Real, Rosalina Express, Cidrália and Impla Transportes were the beneficiary operators of this action. According to Angop, two buses (capable of transporting a total of 63 passengers, with 29 seats and 34 standing) were delivered to each operator.

On the occasion, Jorge Augusto, vice-governor of Luanda for the Economic Sector, stated that these new means are part of a set of 31 buses, which will be made available with a view to contributing to improvements in mobility in Luanda.

He said that the action is the result of a collaboration between the provincial government and the Ministry of Transport, which is also supporting schools, police stations and hospitals, as well as municipal, district and communal administrations, writes Angop.

Jorge Augusto also appealed to the operators concerned to use the new resources appropriately, and also assured that the government of Luanda will continue the work to improve the provincial road infrastructure and raise awareness among citizens about the importance of preserve public goods.

Sérgio Sachikuata, Luanda's provincial director of traffic and mobility, explained that the measure will alleviate one of Luanda's main challenges and enable the creation of new routes where there is currently no frequent public transport. According to the provincial director, the companies included were selected according to their operational and transport capacity, as well as equipment maintenance.

While Demétrio de Sepúlveda, municipal administrator of Viana, praised the action, highlighting that it provides advances, growth and comfort for the population.

With the introduction of these new means, Luanda now has 412 public buses in operation, which operate every day on 75 routes, between 5:30 am and 8:00 pm, says Angop.
