According to a statement from the Cape Verde Ministry of Tourism and Transport, to which VerAngola had access, the Minister of Tourism, Márcio Lopes, made a two-day official visit to Cape Verde. In addition to serving to strengthen relations, promote the exchange of experiences and create partnerships, the visit also aimed to participate in the Cabo Verde Investment Forum, which lasted two days and kicked off on Wednesday, on the island of Sal (Cape Verde).
In addition to the forum, another highlight of the minister's visit was the signing of an action plan in the tourism sector. According to a statement from the Cape Verde Ministry of Tourism and Transport, the signing took place at the beginning of this week.
"On the sidelines of the official visit of Minister Márcio Lopes, an action plan between the two ministries, through the Tourism Institutes of Cape Verde and Angola, represented by their respective presidents, was signed on the afternoon of the 11th at the Robinson hotel", the note reads.
The aforementioned action plan aims to increase cooperation between the two countries through the exchange of information, knowledge and experiences in the tourism sector.
"Based on the memorandum of understanding between the Republic of Angola and the Republic of Cape Verde in the field of tourism, signed on March 28, 2019, on the island of Sal and, recognizing the importance of tourism for economic growth, for the generation of employment and sustainable development and seeking to give a new impetus to cooperation relations in the field of tourism between Angola and Cape Verde, an action plan was signed which aims to increase cooperation between Angola and Cape Verde through exchange of information, knowledge and experiences in the field of tourism", says the Cape Verdean ministry.
To implement this plan, five important axes were identified for its implementation "such as technical-professional training, qualification of the tourist offer and services provided to tourists, integrated tourist development areas and areas of tourist interest and potential, as well as management and operation of social sustainability funds for tourism – tourism fund and business development in tourism".
According to another statement, cited by Angop, at the investment forum, the national delegation, headed by the holder of the Tourism portfolio, was going to exchange experiences in specific areas of this sector, namely sun and sea, nautical and sustainable tourism, as well as with regard to staff training.
According to the minister, cited in the statement, it is "essential" for countries to have a responsible, transparent and ethical public sector, with a view to attracting private investment aimed at this sector.
Furthermore, he also considered that the investment strategy should focus on the development and application of policies that ensure transparent and profitable management of investments, writes Angop.
It should be noted that the investment forum ended on Thursday, where more than 300 people participated, such as promoters and investors, business managers, etc. At the event, it was not just tourism that was in the spotlight, with sectors such as transport, energy, infrastructure, agri-business, maritime economy and information and communication technologies equally highlighted. According to Angop, the forum's objectives also included consolidating the relationship between Angola and Cape Verde, strengthening partnerships in order to boost tourism development, as well as mobilizing new international investment opportunities.
During his visit, the Minister of Tourism was received by his Cape Verdean counterpart. Furthermore, the two ministers, accompanied by their respective delegations, visited Salinas, Bairro Alto Santa Cruz and the Riu Palace tourist resort.
